Objectives:
• Understand Trauma in the LGBTQIA+ Community: Examine the complex relationship between trauma and substance use within the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as unique protective factors that promote resilience and recovery. Cultivate awareness and sensitivity towards the diverse experiences and intersectional identities within the community.
• We be able to Address Barriers to Treatment and Learn about Best Practices: Explore common barriers to accessing treatment
and support services for LGBTQIA+ individuals with co-occurring trauma and substance use disorders and discuss strategies for overcoming these barriers. Discuss ethical considerations, best practices and practical strategies for supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals while acknowledging secondary traumatic stress and cultural humility.
• Gain awareness of LGBTQIA+-inclusive resources, support groups, and community organizations that provide specialized services for individuals struggling with trauma and substance use.
