The Neurobiology of Overeating & Food Addiction

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

The live webinar, “Neurobiology of Overeating and Food Addiction,” will address scientifically-proven approaches to outsmart and rewire the hungry brain. These methods include: abstinence models vs. diet modification, behavioral therapies, neuromodulation, manipulating our gut microbes, and pharmacologic and surgical approaches. Ultimately, the goal is to change our approach and attitude towards food so that it will nourish us, not enslave us. This webinar will help health professionals answer questions we encounter from our patients and clients, including: • Why do we succumb to the pull of food? • Why do we feel powerless over high sugar and fatty foods, such as chocolate, chips or curly fries? • Can we blame it on genetics, our mother’s diet while we were in utero, early life trauma, chronic stress, chemical exposures, menopause, or our circadian clocks being out of sync? • Perhaps our gut microbes are disrupting appetite control? • Or can the composition of certain foods change our neurobiology to promote compulsive overeating? These questions, and many more, will be explored through the lens of up-to-date evidence-based research. Armed with an extensive toolbox of treatment modalities, healthcare practitioners will be ready to confront overeating and food addiction—both of which are challenging and pervasive contributors to the 21st century pandemic of obesity.
