Nutritional Psychiatry & Brain Health

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

Nutritional psychiatry (nutritional neuroscience) is an emerging field that explores how nutritional factors are linked with human emotions, behavior and cognition. This 4-hour course, “Nutritional Psychiatry and Brain Health,” will address two key areas. The first is the link between diet and mental/emotional health, or how mood follows food. THIS COURSE ASKS THE QUESTIONS: • How does the S.A.D. (standard American diet) promote depression and anxiety? • Can a dietary supplement really boost our mood or ease depression?” • Which dietary components and dietary patterns are beneficial for mental health, and why? A second focus of this course is cognitive health, an emerging public health concern, particularly for America’s aging population. You’ve probably seen those advertisements for supplements promising to improve your memory. • Do commercial “brain” supplements really protect the brain? • Are “cognitive enhancers,” “smart drugs” or nootropics (synthetic or natural) really beneficial for mental performance, focus and concentration? • Does a Western diet actually shrink your brain?

• What bioactive food components and dietary patterns are important to preserve cognitive function? • Which dietary pattern best supports an aging brain: the Mediterranean diet, the ketogenic diet? And why? • Does intermittent fasting really protect the brain?
