Course Description:
At least 20 service members and veterans die by suicide every day, with suicide being the second-leading cause of death for post-9/11 veterans. “Gold standard” treatments for PTS are largely based on evidence from civilian survivors of sexual assault, not veterans who have experienced military and/or combat trauma. These EBTs also miss (and can exacerbate) two important types of trauma: Moral Injury and ACEs. In this presentation, participants will learn how spiritual and cumulative trauma play a critical role in veteran suicidality through use of current research and veteran testimonials. Promising paths towards healing will also be discussed.
