Families Struggling with Addiction & Fostering Positive Attachment in Families with Infants and Young Children

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

The first workshop aims to specifically recognize and identify systemic biases that exist in child welfare policy and practices. The goal of this is to increase the attendee's cultural competence of cultural differences that exist in parenting styles that have led to disproportionate rates of child removal in communities of color so that the attendee may consider an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and anti-colonial framework for engaging families. The second workshop aims to discuss the impact that problematic substance use has on the family, highlighting the context surrounding children and the child welfare system. The trainers will discuss the implications of trauma specific to substance use. This workshop will emphasize treatment of the family from an anti-oppressive framework, and will provide skills and resources to assist families who are experiencing problematic substance use. Participants will be able to apply the skills learned in small group discussion during the workshop.
