To date, it is difficult for parents, teachers, social workers, and other professionals to understand and navigate school-based services for students who are at-risk. Their implementation often varies from district-to-district throughout the state. The variety of needs that children have, coupled with the complexity of services add to challenges to navigate these services. Social workers and other professionals working with kids and adolescents should have a comprehensive understanding of the myriad of supports, resources, services, and laws that exist to help them advocate and navigate school supports for at-risk students. Knowledge can be used to promote effective advocacy.
