Introduction to Implicit Bias: Acknowledging Human Bias in Clinical Social Work and How to Reduce Disparities in Access to, and Delivery of, Healthcare Services

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

Now that Social Workers have endured more than a year providing healthcare services during a global pandemic, it’s time to gain a better understanding of bias and implicit bias. With the revisions to the NASW ethics, and the updated licensing regulations from LARA, Social Workers are now required to have a basic understanding of implicit bias and learn strategies to remedy the negative impact of implicit bias by recognizing how it affects judgment and actions that may result in inequitable decision making. In addition, this presentation will review how implicit bias may act as a barrier to access to and delivery of clinical and other healthcare services. This presentation will explore the differences between implicit and explicit bias, while exploring strategies to reducing bias in a clinical setting through a culturally competent foundation. By creating a safer space for learning, the presenter will use case studies and have ample time for questions and discussion.

This meets the Implicit Bias standards.
