The Ethics of Family Informed Therapy

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

We live in an individualistic culture. Many of our evidence-based, trauma informed treatment strategies are designed for individual therapy. We are also aware that developmental trauma, the permanent altering of physiological development resulting in life long emotional regulation difficulties, is the single biggest public health issue in our country, affecting many of our clients. Emotional dysregulation is at the heart of many DSM diagnoses, including anxiety and depressive disorders, addictive and personality disorders. Developmental trauma is a family systems disorder. It is created by the dynamics in family systems. With a deeper understanding of these powerful effects, we can create more compassionate, comprehensive, and ethical treatment strategies for our clients and help them to develop compassion for the self and others, and resilience that allows us them to regulate strong emotion. This workshop will provide the ethical basis for the utilization of a family systems, rather than a solely individual lens in our provision of trauma informed care to our clients.
