The Safe and Effective Use of Opioids

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that approximately 130 million Americans suffer from some type of chronic pain. Most patients in pain (and utilizing opioids) are in or beyond the fifth decade of life. If a clinician desires to prescribe opioids for pain in a safe manner, they must first correctly evaluate the patient's need for narcotic analgesic medications, and weigh it against the risks. Prescribing opioids carry different dangers for different age groups. Younger patients are more prone to addiction, as their brains do not fully form until 24 years old. Middle-aged patients will more often mix multiple different medications without clear medical guidance. Older patients will frequently have polypharmacy concerns with multiple co-morbidities long before opioids are considered. This new webinar will discuss the proper prescription and use of opioid medications for each of these age groups.
