Course Description:
This course is designed to educate professional service providers who provide care to people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) or other dementia and/or their family members and care partners. The material will increase their awareness and understanding of memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It is designed to provide awareness and hands-on information on making mealtimes enjoyable for people living with dementia. Objectives include identifying challenges faced by persons with dementia while trying to get enough to eat and drink, appreciating individuals' preferences and mealtime history, identifying what should be observed at mealtime and the importance of those observations, and identifying approaches that may be used in challenging mealtime situations. Recommendation: take CES 4303 Fundamentals of Dementia Care first. This class is required to complete the certificate. This educational activity is provided by Schoolcraft College, an approved continuing education provider under the Michigan Board of Nursing Administrative Rule R338.10602(g) and is approved for 2 continuing education contact hours for nurses. It is approved for 2 continuing education contact hours for social workers by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative and 0.2 CEUs for all others.
