Course Description:
When it comes to the health and wellbeing of their young children, fathers matter. The positive health effects associated with father involvement begin in pregnancy with improved prenatal, birth, and neonatal health outcomes and significantly lower per-infant healthcare costs. In this way, fathers are central to the health of their families. Unfortunately, there are often barriers that prevent fathers from being fully recognized for their important role in their families. Our panel of fathers and fathering experts will describe and discuss ways in which we can decrease systemic bias that diminishes father involvement within healthcare and other settings and empower fathers to advocate for the needs of their families.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn about the ways in which father involvement increases maternal and child outcomes
Participants will learn about systemic inequities that often prevent fathers from being fully involved in the healthcare of their partners and infants
Participants will learn ways to empower fathers to advocate for the needs of their families
