Course Description:
This course will provide the social worker with an in-depth knowledge of the legal field when it comes to estate planning, elder law and programs that are available to people in need of long term care assistance. The course will address the legal concerns that a person faces when they get older and how elders can afford to get the care they require. Attendees will come away with the knowledge to answer common challenging questions concerning Substitute Decision Making, Veteran’s Benefits, Medicare, Medicaid Benefits, Legal Decision Making Documents, Capacity Issues, Court Documents and Processes Related to Guardianship and Conservatorship. Additionally, attendees will be able to identify ways to advise the elders and families in their care through challenging situations as it relates to long term care and long term care facilities.
