Course Description:
This webinar attempts to bridge the knowledge gaps identified in recent clinical studies in both care providers and sufferers of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and related conditions (“Parkinson-Plus”, PD+). Based on the most current and up-to-date evidence published as peer-reviewed clinical papers in leading journals, Dr. Katz will review the most current guideline-level recommendations as well as ongoing developments in the fields of neurodegenerative conditions characterized by the dysfunction of dopaminergic neurons. The four
main segments of this webinar include: 1. Recognition of early signs, motor and non-motor presentations of Parkinson’s
Disease, Parkinson-Plus, and the potentially confounding Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. 2. Identification of modifiable risk factors for development, progression and complications of PD/PD+ and strategies of education of patients, families and caregivers on risk reduction. 3. Evaluation of the 7 classes of PD medications as well as the atypical antipsychotics for PD-associated dementia, their efficacy and potential adverse effects. 4. Practical approaches to common challenges as PD/PD+ progresses: falls, GI problems, oral and dental health issues, anhedonia and mood abnormalities, nutritional deficits and the use of nutritional interventions. These aspects of current practical approaches are especially valuable for health care professionals as they are on the forefront of both short-term and long-term care for persons with PD/PD+. The webinar will provide both foundational and applied knowledge for generation of health care plans. This webinar would be of high professional and practical value to the health care professional. There will be an interactive Q&A opportunity with Dr. Katz at the end of the webinar.
