Marijuana and Cannabinoids: What Health Professionals Need to Know

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

The United States has now effectively entered an age of medical and recreational “nuclear-strength” potency marijuana. In 1969 at Woodstock, the average THC potency of Marijuana was 1%. Today, at dispensaries across the nation, recreational and medical marijuana can be purchased at potencies (smokable, edibles, concentrates, and vape-able) anywhere from “35%” THC marijuana flower, to 500 mg THC brownies, to 60%-80% THC “concentrates”, to greater than 90% THC “Vape Juice”. None of these high potency marijuana and cannabis products are safe. • What are the adverse health consequences of the lack of vital dosing and safety information on marijuana packages? Compounding these potency issues is (a) the fact that there are currently more than 30 states with different laws, rules, and standards for the prescription and use of medical marijuana, and more than ten states that have legalized all recreational marijuana; (b) there is no central authority such as the FDA that governs any medical or recreational marijuana potency or dosing parameters across the country. The speaker will present the clear peer-reviewed link between high potency marijuana and depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, addiction, and suicide. Also discussed in detail will be the effects of THC on attention, decision-making, memory, and motivation. An examination will be conducted of data connecting high potency marijuana to poorer educational outcomes, professional achievement, and social relationship satisfaction. The participant will gain operational and clinical recommendations on the effects of different doses of THC and CBD in medical and recreational marijuana for use in medical treatment, adverse drug interactions, and leisure activities.
