Course Description:
In collaboration with Sanford Behavioral Health, Harbor Hall, and MyMichigan Health, this presentation will define decolonization within mental health, how this concept can better support diverse populations. Participants will recognize elements of colonization in mental health systems and can begin to advocate for culturally affirming practices. This presentation will support cultural competency and cultural sensitivity to bring awareness on where individuals may need support. This will also inform participants on how decolonizing mental health should be applied to suicide prevention needs and suicidality trends/research in populations of color and immigrants.
Learning Objectives:

2. Deconstruct systemic racism in the mental health and suicide prevention systems and begin to undo their own potential bias.
