The Internal Developmental Experience of Parents Who Have a Gender Variant Child

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

Practice Gap/Need and Course Description:

There is little in the psychoanalytic literature that directly addresses the parenting experience with gender variant youth. Drawing upon the psychoanalytic literature on parenting and gender, and a personal parenting case study and clinical case study, the presenter explicates this parenting experience, to expand clinicians’ competence working with parents of gender variant youth.

After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Apply developmental stages and tasks of parenting to recognizing the challenges a gender variant youth poses to parents throughout their childhood.

2. Discuss the importance of parents’ working through their own internal conflicts evoked by parenting in order to optimally address challenges for their children.

*** No Partial Credit Given. You must arrive within 10 minutes of the start time and stay until 10 minutes of the end time to receive credit.
