Narcissism - Power, Control and the Cycle of Abuse

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

Clients with narcissistic tendencies are different from clients that are diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissism includes rage, arrogance, entitlement, low self-worth, grandiose, excessive interest of oneself, lack of empathy, envy, and a need to control and overpower. The cause of narcissistic personality disorder is influenced by a combination of nature and nurture. This workshop will discuss narcissistic personality disorder and its impacts on relationships and human connection. Advice on effective treatment modalities, leading with empathy, setting boundaries, preventing countertransference, and exploring practical case studies will also be provided.

This workshop is relevant to the practice of Social Work because it provides professionals with the skills necessary to understanding and assisting clients with narcissistic personality disorder. This workshop equips providers with the therapeutic skills necessary to help clients process, heal and thrive through their trauma. Survivors of narcissistic relationships require the implementation of person-centered treatment in order for treatment to be effective. This workshop educates providers on effective treatment modalities and techniques.
