Course Description:
Learn the scientific and historical basis for mindfulness practices and how to share them with clients in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive way. In this experiential workshop, learn several short grounding and awakening mindfulness techniques for resilience drawing from somatics, yoga, qigong, and psychology/social work. No experience necessary. Movements will be small and can be done virtually. Learn how to help yourself and others create short, doable, realistic practices to bring greater awareness and care for body, mind, and heart/spirit.
Since the pandemic, mindfulness has seen a huge uptick in interest among the population. Clients are seeking ways to regulate their nervous systems and find greater balance in their lives. Along with the tremendous potential of mindfulness practices to help, there is also a heightened need for social workers to know its origins, limitations, and potential harms. Trauma-informed mindfulness and micro mindfulness practices are in high demand. This workshop seeks to equip clinicians with the knowledge to aid clients in applying beginning mindfulness practices in responsible, culturally-sensitive, and meaningful ways in their everyday lives.
