Writing for Wellness 2: Journaling Interventions for Clients and Practitioners

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

This highly experiential workshop will build on the foundation of Writing for Wellness 1 by offering more advanced evidence-supported journaling methods for higher functioning clients, consumers, and clinicians. The course will explore the cathartic benefits of expressive writing as well as its limitations. Participants will have the opportunity to see how different journaling methods can be used with individuals and groups in somatically grounded and trauma-informed ways. It is advised but not required for participants to take Writing for Wellness 1 first.

Part of healing trauma is reconnecting with oneself. Journaling can be a part of creating a bridge back to one’s true self through tailored exercises. On the macro level, helping clients and groups see historical evidence of others, especially those who have been marginalized, find their voices through journaling, can be affirming and inspiring. This presentation offers social workers an opportunity to see how journaling might help individuals and groups and when it could potentially cause harm if not applied in trauma-informed ways. Participants will learn how higher functioning clients can take the practices learned and use them in between sessions—an especially useful option for additional support at a time when people may need additional tools to be able to maintain resilience collectively in society.
