Course Description:
.This training will use a social justice lens to explore the phenomenon of intimate partner violence. The purpose of
the training is to develop an understanding of the dynamics and complexities of intimate partner violence and to dispel myths and stereotypes that have worked to limit the availability and access to resources that are needed to combat the problem. The training will discuss trauma and the impact of experiencing and witnessing trauma for children and adults from an intersectional lens. Using an experiential, skill-based simulation, the training will also develop the requisite set ofskills so that child protection, foster, and adoption caseworkers can implement meaningful and effective interventions andsafety plans. By looking at a combination of individual and societal factors that contribute to the prevalence of intimatepartner violence, participants will be challenged to develop creative, systemic interventions and effective safety plans. This training will utilize role playing, exercises, small and large group discussions, and visual displays.
