DEI and Implicit Bias in Education

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

This is a two part class. The second class will be held on 10/12/22

Diversity, equity and inclusion are the foundational frameworks that guide healthy and integrated educational services and healthcare systems.

Implicit bias is “an attitude or internalized stereotype that affects an individual’s perception, action, or decision making in an unconscious manner and often contributes to unequal treatment of people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, age, disability, or other characteristic” (Michigan Public Health Code).

This interactive workshop will help us look below the surface to understand how the stories we have about ourselves, our communities, and our students or clients came to be; how they influence our actions and inaction; and how we can hone our own awareness of our conscious and unconscious motivations to provide services that will result in more equitable outcomes. Regardless of the demographics of your students or clients, understanding the core values aligned with DEI and the potential impact of implicit bias can improve outcomes for everyone you serve.

Sessions must be attended in session order, but attendees may opt to attend only 1 or some of the sessions.
