Course Description:
Kinship families have sometimes been referred to as the “hidden foster care” for children. Their part in a child’s life can provide many benefits in the long-term outcomes for a child, yet they are often missing out on important information to maximize supports available to them. Staff of the Kinship Care Resource Center and Chance at Childhood, both Community Programs with the MSU School of Social Work, will discuss the challenges that kinship caregivers face when caring for children. They will review the legal options that can either cause barriers for kinship families, or provide supports depending on the choices they make.
Beginning and Introductory skill levels.
