Course Description:
Practice Gap Need and Course Description: These studies underscore the effect of maternal defenses and object relations on toddlers’ psychological functioning. The course will review this research and interventions to improve adaptation to pregnancy and parenting through traditional psychoanalytic treatments as well as new evidenced-based interventions for at-risk mothers.
After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
Describe the types of defensive functioning and object relations that support healthy and pathological adaptations for mothers and their toddlers.
Identify traditional and evidence-based treatment interventions that have been shown to improve mother and toddler outcomes
