Course Description:
This presentation, co-presented by two people living with dementia and a clinical social worker, will explore grief in dementia. We will consider non-death losses, the diagnostic process, and the stigma experienced by people living with dementia. We will also explore how to support people living with dementia when a loss occurs in their life through the lens of what it is like for the person living with dementia. This will include communication tips, the ways grief may present differently in people with dementia, and how to respond to questions about the person who died in ways that will not elicit a meltdown or cause re-traumatization.
