Course Description:
In this 2-hour seminar attendees will gain an overview of pain management, including the definition, types and characteristics of pain, factors that influence pain, the physiopathology of pain and the various treatments commonly used in treating and managing chronic pain. Additionally, attendees will learn psychotherapeutic approaches to pain management, including mindfulness, coping and relaxation skills, CBT strategies and psychoeducation. Cultural differences surrounding pain and pain management will also be addressed. This 2-hour seminar will be a mixture of lecture, group discussion and practicing psychotherapeutic exercises.
