Course Description:
This course is designed to educate professional service providers who provide care to people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia and/or their family members and care partners. The material will increase their awareness and understanding of memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Participants will learn about the prevalence, symptoms and prognosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, the trajectory and stages of Alzheimer’s disease, common communication and behavioral challenges, methods for utilizing non-verbal communication strategies, interpretation of behaviors as forms of communication, and non-pharmacological interventions for persons with dementia. The class with include a question and answer opportunity with a person living with dementia and/or his/her care partner.
