Course Description:

Breathwork is various patterns of breathing exercises designed to improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Through manipulation of the breath, these exercises induce emotional and physical healing as well as insight into the subconscious. This presentation will discuss the functions of the vagus nerve, Polyvagal Theory as an understanding of how the body responds to trauma and stress, and how the various breathing patterns affect the vagus nerve. Additionally, breathing exercises to activate the vagus nerve as well as heart rate variability, how poor vagal tone impacts inflammation, circadian rhythm, and digestion, the physical and emotional aspects related to the diaphragmatic belt of tension, and biodynamic exercises to release ribcage and diaphragm tension will be presented.
