Course Description:

Students in this school social work course will be provided with social work practice, knowledge, and skills using effective evidenced based assessment and intervention to be used with individual students, groups, families, school personnel and communities. These assessments and interventions are used to enhance student learning, development, and social/academic school success. It will examine the challenges and opportunities that social work practice in an educational setting experience. The roles and functions of school social work services are an important link between home, school, and community. This course will engage students in knowledge and activities to assess and intervene in a variety of disability areas. Students will learn the importance of family engagement and collaboration as well as consultation between teachers, families, and other school personnel.
