Course Description:

Research consistently reaffirms the benefits of positive fathering for children’s wellbeing and development across a range of domains ranging from education to behavioral and physical health. Likewise fathers’ engagement in early childhood programs and practices has the potential to boost the benefits of interventions for families and extend positive outcomes for children. Despite the benefits, father engagement is challenging as well.

On PART 2, Empirical research will guide the discussion into the systemic factors that have historically influenced the levels of involvement among Black and Brown fathers. Followed by the benefits of using curriculum-based programs to help fathers become more involved, empowered, and influential in the development of children. The discussion will conclude with resources that professionals working with families may find beneficial as it relates to supporting fathers.
