Course Description:

Palliative care is both a philosophy of care and a highly structured care delivery system. It begins at the time a life-threatening or debilitating illness or injury is diagnosed and is appropriate across all stages of the illness trajectory. Expecting people to understand or have meaningful conversations about palliative care and end-of-life (EOL) care issues presumes a common vocabulary. Establishing a common vocabulary is essential because it provides the basis upon which to define palliative care. This course covers the topics of: Defining Palliative & EOL Care; Continuum and Characteristics; Prevalence & Access; Landmarks and Progress and Barriers to Overcome.
