Supporting Children and Adolescents in the Child Welfare System who Experience Chronic Pain and Other Co-Occurring Conditions

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

Many children and adolescents experience chronic pain, which impacts them across all settings in their lives. However, there is evidence to suggest that children and adolescents in the child welfare system experience chronic pain at elevated levels compared to the general population of children and adolescents (i.e., those not in the child welfare system). Chronic pain can adversely impact children and adolescents and pose challenges to them in their everyday lives. Children and adolescents experiencing chronic pain are also at risk for other comorbid, co-occurring conditions that may impact other facets of their health and mental health. It is important for child welfare workers, social workers, health care providers, clinicians, and school professionals to be aware of chronic pain and strategies and interventions that can be used to support children and adolescents experiencing chronic pain.
