Course Description:

This course is one of three required courses for those who wish to practice School Social Work in Michigan. This course will provide students with a deep understanding of the history of education, special education, and current legal and ethical standards. This course will also discuss emerging issues, which will provide candidates with a strong basis to advocate for educational policy and appropriate resources to support quality education and the legal rights of students with disabilities. The students will be able to effectively communicate the needs and legal rights of individuals with disabilities according to state and federal special education law. This course will also prepare candidates to work within the school environment with educators and families and to collaborate with students with various disabilities.
