Course Description:
This is one of three required courses for those who wish to practice social work in a public-school setting in the State of Michigan. The role of the social worker in elementary and secondary schools and the necessary adaptations to the changes taking place in the educational scene are examined and evaluated. Problem solving approaches are given special attention within the structure and organization of the schools and their relationships with the surrounding community. The specific contributions of a school social worker as a helping person to the pupils, the school staff, and the homes by various interventive means are explored. You must have already obtained an MSW prior to taking this course. • Completion of a MSW from an accredited School of Social Work
• Completion of course content in School social work policy, assessment, and intervention
• Completion of at least 500 hours of practice with children and families
This course is asynchronous online and runs for 12 weeks, from January 4 - March 31, 2023, with content due within modules that begin approximately every two weeks.
