Course Description:
This course discusses the causes and classifications of these disorders and the various nontraditional treatment options available to Social Workers enabling them to update their skills and knowledge toward the fulfillment of that role. Insomnia is a well-recognized risk factor for depression and anxiety. Treating insomnia early can help reduce the incidence of depression and anxiety. Social workers play a valuable role in treating anxiety and depression through proper assessment and counseling with adequate feedback and guidance. But for as common a problem as it is, there is only a very small minority of professionals trained to treat insomnia using behavioral strategies. Sleep medicine can therefore benefit from diverse specialists to meet the needs of the increasing numbers of patients.
