Course Description:
Effective social work practice involves recognizing the influence of various behaviors and practices on general health and well-being. As case managers, social workers link clients with services that meet their needs, requiring an understanding of how various behaviors enhance or detract from general health and vitality. As counselors or psychotherapists, social workers treat emotion-based disorders and thus need to be knowledgeable about the ways in which different behaviors affect day-to-day functioning. The choice to consume a diet richer in probiotics and prebiotics or to take probiotic supplements is one that many clients may make. This course will provide social workers with a better understanding of how probiotics and prebiotics may help reduce common troublesome GI symptoms and recurrent GU infections in patients without complex and expensive treatments.
