Course Description:

This module explores the varied and complex factors that contribute to attempted suicide—often a combination of genetic predisposition, medical and psychological factors. This module first explores the mental and physical conditions that may offer underlying reasons (from depression and anxiety disorder to cardiovascular disease and cancer), as well as the complicating factors of substance abuse. The module then explores the variety of stressors that can act as triggers, such as difficult military service, bullying (especially cyberbullying), socioeconomic status (SES) and a family history of suicide.
