Course Description:

This module explores how case managers can execute their roles in helping abuse victims to the fullest. It begins by detailing how a patient- centered medical home model—as opposed to the traditional fee-for-service model—creates an opportunity for case managers to help abuse victims access ongoing support. The module then explores the ethical and cultural concerns that case managers should keep in mind as they work with abuse victims—such as privacy issues, maintaining professional distance and offering both culturally and linguistically-sensitive services. Then, the module details how securing the appropriate licensure, accreditation and knowledge of industry standards (such as those of the NASW) will bolster both the case managers and the healthcare organization.
