Course Description:

Identifying child abuse is a complex process—in part because victims and perpetrators are typically not open about the abuse—so this module offers some guidance in identifying the warning signs and explaining the protocol for intervening. The module begins by distinguishing between telltale signs of abuse and mere accidents or other conditions, while also detailing the signs of abusive head trauma (AHT), shaken baby syndrome (SBS), and red flags associated with bruises, burns and even female genital mutilation. The module then details the most helpful forms of intervention, and explains how abuse reporting laws vary from state to state.
