Course Description:

Independent Study to provide the definition of a traumatic brain injury and basic information about the types of TBI that occur, the frequency and causes of TBI, and the levels of severity of brain injury. The potential moderators of cognition and emotion after a TBI and focus on the cognitive effects of TBI and the psychological effects of TBI. Common cognitive problems that you see after an injury as well as the recovery of cognitive skills and some recommendations for people following a traumatic brain injury. Description of psychological effects of TBI, common emotional and behavioral problems that you see after an injury. Recovery and psychological functioning after TBI as well as the common treatment paradigms after an injury. Caregiver effects and the effect of TBI on family functioning as this is crucial to the effect that it has on patient functioning.
