Advanced Training for Collaborative Divorce Professionals -

  • Crown Plaza Hotel 925 South Creyts Road Lansing, MI, 48917 United States (map)

Course Description:

Collaborative Divorce is an alternative dispute resolution process which utilizes an interdisciplinary team. The goal is to achieve an equitable divorce which is more cooperative and less harmful than "traditional" divorce. This one-day advanced training will provide in-depth education between litigation and the collaborative approach. It will explore further the role of the attorneys, the financial professional and the mental health professional(s).

Mental health professionals will increase their skills in serving in their role as team members (Divorce Mental Health Professionals), and further examine the definition of the role, its boundaries, as well as tasks, activities and functions performed. The professionals will be able to review previous cases and determine ways to meet the needs of clients in a more efficient and supportive manner. Time will also be spent on interacting with the other two disciplines as team members. The steps to asses a case, and work as a team member with both the couple and the other professionals will be discussed.

Participants will have time to examine challenges in this complex work and learn strategies for dealing with them. Some time will also be devoted to ethical considerations of the mental health professional in this role.
