Course Description:
The biology of stress and pain and its impact highlights the importance of self care. Evidence indicates that a lack of care has negative impact on the individual, clients, and organization. Additionally, vicarious trauma is a leading cause of people leaving the helping profession. Raising awareness and developing skills to manage stress and vicariohs trauma is paramount. Further, charging organizations to address worker wellbeing is a critical part of the solution. Pain will be address by both the description of the neurobiology of stress and impact on mental health and alostatic loading. This impact leading to impairment will be explored with a focus on reactive and proactive responses
