  • NMC Hagerty Center 715 East Front Street Traverse City, MI, 49686 United States (map)

Course Description:

Ethical practice is of critical importance for all practitioners in social work, nursing, counseling, psychology, peer coaching, and chemical addictions disciplines. There are competing needs for self-determination and evidence-based implementation. Ethical dilemmas appear in dealing with social justice, management of resources, and consumer-direction and safety. A process is reviewed to help understand ethics relating to professions, licensure expectations, and methods to resolve conflicts in micro, mezzo, and macro practice. A case-based approach will enable resolution methods for both policies and practices. The program also addresses ethics and public health with the opioid crisis in our communities. An approach to working with people who need pain management will be introduced. The program focuses on helping individuals at risk for substance use disorders, especially increased alcohol use due to the pandemic. The treatment options discussed relates to managing pain and minimizing risk for addiction. Special attention will be given to prevention and intervention using best practices in dealing with overdose from opiates.
