Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences

  • Community Action Agency 1214 Greenwood Avenue Jackson, MI, 49203 United States (map)

Course Description:

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) is a public health disaster. Until very recently, this public health disaster has been hidden from view. Our society has bought into a set of misconceptions, such as:

  • ACEs are rare
  • They happen somewhere else to other people
  • Some, or maybe most, children can escape unscathed, or if not, they can be rescued and healed by emergency response systems, such as child protective services or criminal justice.

But ACEs are the greatest determinant of health. Understanding ACEs can also offer the biggest opportunity to shift the public health crisis. In this training, participants will be presented the

ACEs research and findings and how this knowledge could impact community capacity and resilience.
