Course Description:
Behavioral health providers have training and experience relevant to the management of chronic pain; however, many providers have limited knowledge or experience specific to chronic pain. The goal of this presentation is to describe how behavioral health providers can apply their skill set to individuals with chronic pain to improve clinician competence and patient outcomes. Participants of this presentation will be able to describe pain as an output from the brain and identify psychological constructs impacting pain. They will be able to discuss the relationship between mental health concerns and pain as well as social issues that impact adjustment to chronic pain.
