Course Description:
Transgender and non-binary patients are at a high risk of discrimination, negative experiences, and reduced access to healthcare solely based on their gender identity. Many healthcare professionals have limited or no experience with transgender and non-binary patients or how to provide the most affirming and helpful care for them in healthcare settings. This presentation will provide information on the various barriers trans and non-binary patients face and how healthcare workers may be able to help advocate for better access to care. Treatment, test, and assessment considerations when working with these patients and how to provide an overall open, welcoming, and affirming environment and approach to care will also be presented.
